The cost of living in Tucson stuck right at the national average through the second quarter of 2008, according to data compiled by the Council for Community and Economic Research.
The cost of living has gone up here, but not as much as it has in other places, said David Woodburn, a spokesman for the Tucson Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce.
The ACCR Cost of Living Index is calculated by examining the costs of products in six categories: grocery items, housing, utilities, transportation, health care, and miscellaneous goods and services.
The national average for the index is 100 and Tucson was just above that average in 2007, at 100.3. The latest figure puts Tucson a sliver below the average, at 99.8. The Lake Havasu-Kingman City area had the highest cost of living in Arizona and the Sierra Vista-Douglas area had the lowest.
