Owens Corning shuts Eloy plant
The slumping housing market has led to the closure of the Owens Corning insulation plant in Eloy.
The Casa Grande Dispatch reports 40 people are losing their jobs at the central Arizona plant that operated for 15 years. The company is also closing other operations.
Owens Corning manufactures insulation, roofing, masonry and asphalt products for residential and commercial buildings.
Charges announced against tax preparers
Three Northern Arizona tax preparers face several charges linked to fraudulent Internal Revenue Service refunds, the U.S. Attorney's Office says.
Prosecutors say Shelia and Deane Young, both 47, and 70-year-old Kennith Defoor of Heber-Overgaard were arrested on a 12-count indictment.

The three were released from custody, authorities said. Trial is set for Jan. 11. Prosecutors say the three claimed more than $9.5 million in fraudulent refunds.
