Three local food establishments failed their county health inspections last month, with one of them failing a follow-up inspection before all three passed reinspection and had their regular licenses restored.
Inn Suites Hotel, 475 N. Granada Ave., Don Betos, 1501 W. St. Mary's Road, and Riquisima, 7115 E. 22nd St. all racked up enough critical violations in food safety or cleanliness to cause health inspectors to issue provisional licenses.
Inspectors classified nine other establishments as needing improvement.
Inn Suites Hotel
A Jan. 23 inspection at the hotel found food at improper temperatures and employees washing their hands in two-compartment food-preparation sinks when there was food in one compartment.
The inspector ordered that at least three handwashing sinks be installed near the dishwashing and food preparation areas within 10 days.

Raw eggs were found stored above ready-to-eat tortillas, and the slicer had dried food on it, according to the report.
The inspector found a container of cottage cheese that expired last October, and parts of the ceiling in the main kitchen had caved in.
The hotel failed a Feb. 2 follow-up but passed on Feb. 9.
In online records dating back to March 2000, this was the first time the hotel had received a provisional license.
The hotel's general manager did not reply to messages left for him.
Don Betos
On Jan. 22, a county health inspector reported there was no manager present at the restaurant and nobody was in charge.
The inspector observed that raw meat was stored at incorrect temperatures and that employees did not rub their hands together long enough while washing them.
One employee was eating while he prepared a customer's order, the inspector reported.
A food-preparation cutting board was encrusted with dried food, and the men's toilet was not working, according to the report.
The restaurant passed a Feb. 1 reinspection.
Efforts to reach management by phone were unsuccessful because the phone was disconnected.
The eatery was put on a provisional license last February but passed a follow-up inspection. It received a "needs improvement" rating in June but again passed a follow-up inspection.
Riquisima
On Jan. 29, Riquisima's employees were found to have improper hand-washing habits — not rubbing hands together long enough and using a bucket of standing soapy water to wash them.
Employees also had drinks on and near the food preparation table, according to the inspector.
Large containers of food were found without date marks, and the fryers had excessive crumbs and debris underneath.
Riquisima passed a Feb. 2 follow-up inspection.
According to online records dating back to July 2000, this was the first time the restaurant had been put on a provisional license.
Calls to a phone number connected to the restaurant's address were not returned.
