Marana's plans for a residential-commercial town core have been put on hold as the project's development group filed for bankruptcy Sunday.
Barrios de Marana LLC had planned to build a pedestrian-family town core, mixing apartments, storefronts and commercial space on 38 acres just north of Marana's town hall near West Grier Road and North Marana Main Street.
But the group was never able to secure financing for the plans, said Jack Neubeck, director of business development at The Planning Center, a Tucson-based firm that developed the plan for Barrios de Marana.
"It's on hold," said Neubeck, who is also a member of Barrios de Marana. "We may have a sale (of the land), but we won't know about that until the 15th" of December.
Court documents show Barrios de Marana has assets and debts of less than $50,000.

Neubeck declined to say who might buy the site, but he said it's unclear if the party will be able to get financing.
If the sale doesn't go through, Neubeck said his group will try to hold on to the land and pursue a development after the market stabilizes.
