“There are a high percentage of small businesses that provide
professional services to the public and other businesses,” said Andy
Hann, ASBA Chairman, Public Policy Committee. “Eliminating the
opportunity for Government to tax services will ensure that Arizona
maintains a competitive environment to attract new service businesses to
the state. A taxation on services will adversely affect small
businesses. Business competition provides better service and
reduced cost that will benefit all Arizonans.”
The constitutional amendment Prop 126 would prohibit the state and each
county, city, town, district, or other political subdivision in Arizona
from imposing a new or increased tax on services that was not already in
effect on December 31, 2017. Services can include various types of
economic activities that don't involve tangible goods, from
personal-oriented activities, including salon services, pet grooming,
amusement, and fitness activities, to financial-oriented activities,
including real estate transactions, banking, and investment management,
to healthcare-oriented activities, such as doctor visits.
ASBA continues a 45-year legacy of providing advocacy and resources to
local small businesses, creating new and better ways to make
business-to-business connections, and advocating for public policy
supporting the state of Arizona business community.
