Alisa Crisp and Tonia Fierko sell luxury in the form of cupcakes.
Crisp and Fierko, who worked together for 10 years in the cell-phone industry, opened Sweet Things Cupcake Shoppe at the Foothills Mall, 7475 N. La Cholla Blvd., in August.
"It has been great. There's not a lot of stress involved. We only have happy customers," Crisp said of their first three months in the designer-cupcake biz.
The pair decided to join the cupcake craze after researching businesses that have thrived in the country's down economy.
"Cupcake shops kept coming up as a booming trend," Crisp said.
Sales in the first three months have exceeded the owners' expectations, they say, and they don't believe the cupcake trend will cool.
"They remind people of their childhood," Crisp said.
