Discount beverage retailer Total Wine & More will open its second Tucson-area store Thursday at Park Place mall, 5870 E. Broadway.
The 26,000-square-foot store, in the northside mall space vacated last year by a Borders bookstore, will be staffed by 35 to 50 people, the company says. Total Wine opened its first area store in 2008 at 4370 N. Oracle Road.
The Park Place store will be the first in the region feature Total Wine's next-generation store format, including:
• Complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the store and iPads at a state-of-the-art tasting bar, to allow customers to interact with an app that recommends specific wines to pair with certain foods.
• An education center to host classes on wine, beer and spirits.
• And a "Brewery District" with 12 beer taps to fill customers' refillable "growlers" with a rotating selection of local, regional and national beers.

And of course, the store will offer scads of alcoholic beverages, including more than 8,000 wines, 3,000 spirits and 2,500 beers.
A competitor, BevMo, is already established at 6228 E. Broadway, just east of Total Wine's new store.
