Yes, it was a popularity contest that landed Tucson chef Massimo Tenino's pizzeria Isola Pizza Bar the title of San Diego Best Pizza 2014.
But those are the true tests of a restaurant's culinary mettle. There's no bigger honor than the one given by folks coming through your doors and eating your food.
The San Diego contest was sponsored by rock radio station KGB FM.
Tenino opened Isola Pizza Bar in the heart of San Diego's Little Italy in 2012. It serves wood-fired, thin crust pizzas just like his Tucson restaurant Tavolino Ristorante Italiano, 2890 E. Skyline Drive. Tavolino is open for lunch and dinner Sundays through Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and until 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. For reservations call 531-1913.Â
