Tucson chef Massimo Tenino has set up shop in sunny San Diego.
The chef/owner of Tavolino Ristorante Italiano recently opened Isola Pizza Bar in San Diego’s “Little Italy” section.
The intimate restaurant features a wood-fired oven in an open kitchen, where Tenino’s staff churns out 14 varieties of artisan pizza including the Gambaretti topped with shrimp, shaved asparagus, mozzarella, tomato and goat cheese; and the Taleggio e Patate showcasing the namesake taleggio cheese, and accented with thinly sliced red potatoes, crimini mushrooms, rosemary and spicy peperoncini.
Isola is named after Tenino’s grandmother, who, according to a press release, inspired his passion for food and devotion to fresh simple ingredients.
