Normally, Tavolino Ristorante Italiano is closed on Sundays. But it'll be open for a special celebration this weekend.
The restaurant, 2890 E. Skyline Drive, is celebrating the Feast of Ferragosto. The holiday, which dates back to the Roman Empire, used to spur month-long vacations, and often businesses closed. These days, it's a much shorter holiday in which Italians take short trips to the beach and enjoy multi-course meals and wine.
Well, you're on your own for the beach part, but chef/owner Massimo Tenino is preparing a family-style feast featuring a gut-buster of a menu: antipasti, seafood salad, crab cakes, calamari, pasta, a whole suckling pig and, of course, dessert.
And that's just a partial list.
The cost is $65 per person, and the feast begins at 6 p.m. To make a reservation, call 531-1913.
