Liquor-license transfer OK'd for Candy Store
The Arizona State Liquor Board approved a license transfer for a Tucson strip club that was the site of two deadly shootings in 2009.
The board voted 7-0 Thursday to transfer The Candy Store's license from previous owner Steven M. Carringer to Corey D. Owens, who will operate the club through a corporation called Whitefeather Ventures LLC.
At a hearing in December, the liquor board delayed approving The Candy Store's license transfer because of public opposition of the application and because the City Council recommended it not be approved.
Last year, the strip club's owner agreed to pay two fines totaling $90,000 for violations that included repeated acts of violence, selling or using drugs on the premises and one count of a prohibited sex act, according to the Arizona Department of Liquor Licenses and Control.

'Water-flow issues' affect Raytheon workers
Employees at Raytheon Missile Systems' plant on South Rita Road were told to stay away from the office Friday after subfreezing temperatures created "water-flow issues" there and at Raytheon's plant at Tucson International Airport, a spokesman said.
However, many Rita Road employees worked at other Raytheon facilities or remotely Friday, and corrective work was nearly complete late Friday, Raytheon spokesman John Patterson said.
The company, which is Southern Arizona's largest employer, expects normal operations to resume on Monday.
Gasoline prices higher
The average price around the state for regular gasoline is $3.035 a gallon this week, AAA says. That's up more than 3 cents from last week.
Tucson has the state's lowest average price at $2.92 a gallon - but that's still up nearly 13 cents in a week.
