As I see the eighth or ninth seasons of some TV series being released on DVD, I'm very curious about one of my all-time favorite TV shows, "NYPD Blue." It seems like it takes them forever to release a season — they're only up to four or five now.
First, specific to "Blue," do you know of any plans to release the rest of the series? And, generally speaking, why does it take some series (like "Blue") forever to be released and other 10-year series have the whole catalog currently available on DVD?

Bruce, season four of "Blue" was released in June 2006, and 20th Century Fox has yet to announce any plans to release subsequent seasons of the hard-boiled cop drama, which ran from 1993 to 2005. Only the Fox bean counters and DVD marketing team can explain why some DVD series come out quickly while others languish for years.

Taking a look at Fox's release patterns with "Blue," it's reasonable to expect the next couple seasons to be released next year.
The first season came out in March 2003, followed by season two in August of that year. After a three-year layoff, the next two seasons came in 2006, with season three released in February. So maybe we'll get seasons five and six in '09.
For now, be happy that you've got four seasons of the show to enjoy. I'm still waiting for the first season of "Mr. Belvedere."
