It would be easy to simply call The Lumineers a folk-rock outfit, but then you miss whole layers of musical complexity that have propelled this Denver trio to the top of critics' best-of lists.
More importantly, the band's energy, frontman Wesley Schultz nasal vocals and its sheer musical prowess - between the three (Schultz, Jeremiah Fraites and Neyla Pekarek) they play seven instruments including mandolin and cello - have helped them amass a solid fan base that will likely crowd into Tucson's Rialto Theatre for the band's show tonight.
The trio comes here with its eponymous debut album on Dualtone Records, released last spring amid a whirlwind of positive reviews and buzz. It debuted No. 11 on the Billboard 200 chart. The album's first single, "Ho Hey," broke into the Top 40 and sold more than 500,000 copies.
The trio shares the stage with Bad Weather for an all-ages show starting at 8 p.m. today. Tickets are $16.
