Like all exercise, there's no quick fix.
Tracie Rogers of the American Council on Exercise recommended taking kickboxing classes three times a week to get results.
At the classes, wear workout gear: shorts or loose pants; T-shirt and athletic shoes. Some kickboxing classes are done barefoot or in socks.
Some classes provide gloves; others don't.
Finding the right class
There is no certification required to be a kickboxing instructor, so do your homework.
1. Check out several places. Many gyms let you try a kickboxing class for free. Meet some people in the classes.
"It may be a great place that people love, but it may not be the place for you," said Tracie Rogers, a certified personal trainer.

2. Find an instructor with whom you click.
3. Look for variety. Is the same routine taught every time? You'll get better results when the workout routines are changed..
A good class should include interval training, where exercise is amped up for brief periods of time to raise the heart rate.
"Don't do the same thing every time you go in - then it won't be a priority," Rogers said. "We are busy people, and our fitness has to be something we enjoy."
