"You should try these, Mom, they're fun!"
That was the report from the basement lab when our 8-year-old tester tried out FunSlides Carpet Skates, plastic strap-ons for sliding across carpeted floors as you would a polished wood floor in your socks.
According to manufacturer Simtec, customers who bought its EZ Moves slides for moving furniture reported that they were fun to scoot around on. Simtec added foot straps and made a few other changes, and FunSlides were born.
We did try them (one size fits all), and yes, they are fun. They're also remarkably good exercise, kind of like cross-country skiing or ice skating without the frozen extremities.
Granted, unless you have a carpeted area the size of a hockey rink, you do a lot of turning. But that's good for coordination, right? And the aerobic workout is enough to elicit another report from the 8-year-old that this parent was happy to hear: "Boy, am I pooped."
