Downtown Kitchen + Cocktails is starting a Mixology Boot Camp.
The first one is June 18 and starts at 1400 hours, or 2 p.m.
Participants must be at least 21 and able to lift a glass several times.
“We’ll talk about cocktails, so you can become a badass bartender at home,” said Kristian Unvericht, 31, Downtown’s manager and boot camp instructor.
He plans to make four to five drinks per class, a mix of classics and originals. “You will learn to make simple variations on really good cocktails,” he said.
That will include teaching infusions and making different simple syrups.
Unvericht described the classes as a “combination of classroom and fun stuff,” with participants having the equivalent of a drink or two and bites of food.

Classes will last two hours and be held every three weeks, possibly through the end of the year.
Each class is $25 and will be limited to 36 people.
Unvericht expects a good turnout.
“Culinary cocktails have become a huge trend nationally. People are getting more interested in them like they have with fine foods,” he said.
Downtown Kitchen + Cocktails is Janos Wilder’s newest venture, so it’s not surprising that, like the cooking classes at his signature Foothills restaurant, Janos, the mixology sessions will include demonstrations, discussions, tastings and take-home recipes.
The first class is “Vodka vs. Gin … Let the drinking begin.”
