Here’s the good thing about putting a handful of memorable 1980s pop bands on one lineup: You get to relive your youth — or recall your parents’ good ol’ days — in one greatest-hits night.
That’s what’s in store Friday, Aug. 19, when the AVA at Casino del Sol hosts “Lost 80’s Live,” a showcase of one-hit wonders — we say that with all due respect — whose careers soared in the decade that brought us yuppies and teen angst.
Here’s what to expect to hear when the music gets underway at 8 p.m.:

- Thompson Twins frontman Tom Bailey is dusting off the trio’s hits — “Doctor, Doctor,” “Hold Me Now,” “You Take Me Up” — and playing them live for the first time in nearly 30 years.
- With its original lineup still intact, UK new wave band Modern English might sound just as they did when “I Melt With You” and “Hands Across the Sea” were their hits.
- The duo of Naked Eyes is now a solo effort with frontman Pete Byrne. But the Brit rocker still holds onto the catalogue including “(There’s) Always Something There to Remind Me” and “Promises, Promises.”
- A Flock of Seagulls made its fortunes on running — as in their hit single “I Ran (So Far Away).” Expect them also to dust off “Space Age Love Song,” “Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You)” and “The More You Live, the More You Love.”
- Los Angeles power-pop/rockers Dramarama had just a few modest hits, but expect to hear “Last Cigarette” and “Anything, Anything (I’ll Give You).”
- Brit rockers Gene Loves Jezebel has two touring versions, a U.S. group led by twin brother Michael Aston and a UK group with the second Aston twin Jay. Both draw on the band’s hits “Heartache,” “Desire (Come and Get It)” and “The Motion of Love.”
- Men Without Hats will likely own the night’s can’t-get-it-out-of-my-head moment when they sing “Safety Dance.”
- Farrington & Mann the Original When in Rome UK is a long name for what used to be When in Rome. But the songs remain the same. Expect to hear “The Promise” and “Heaven Knows.”
