With Tucson's beautiful weather it can be tough to get into the Thanksgiving spirit. While everyone else in the country is bundling up in sweaters for the Big Meal, we're looking for our other flip-flop.
Not to worry. We found a few Thanksgiving-related movies that may (or may not) help get you into the Thanksgiving mood.
A few are dripping with sentimentality, but there is some solid comedy and good storytelling in a few of these. Presented in no particular order, here are a few films to cook and do dishes by:
“A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving” (1973)
You know the characters and the plot of this Emmy award winning-animated TVspecial based on the Charles M. Schulz comic strip by Charles M. Schulz. Yes, you’ve seen it before, but it’s a Thanksgiving tradition.

“Planes, Trains and Automobiles” (1987)
Directed and written by John Hughes, Steve Martin is a fellow just trying to get home for Thanksgiving and John Candy is his oafish companion.
“Home for the Holidays” (1995)
Jodie Foster directed this film about a women who suddenly without a boyfriend and with a daughter who goes off with her boyfriend, will be spending Thanksgiving with her family. Stars Holly Hunter, Anne Bancroft and Robert Downey Jr.
“Scent of a Woman” (1992)
Oh my, who can forget the tango scene with Al Pacino? But you might have forgotten this film takes place over Thanksgiving weekend. Pacino took home an Oscar for best actor for this film.
“Hannah and Her Sisters” (1986)
Definitely one of Woody Allen’s best films, it is set between two Thanksgivings, with Mia Farrow as Hannah. The film also features Barbara Hershey, Carrie Fisher, Michael Caine, Dianne Wiest and other fine actors.
“Grumpy Old Men” (1993)
Funny, touching wonderful performances by Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau call attention to growing old, friendship and being cantankerous.
“An Old Fashioned Thanksgiving” (2008)
It’s based on a story by Louisa May Alcott — and I’m a sucker for anything by Alcott. A widowed mother of four struggles to feed her family and keep it together. One of her daughters writes rich grandma and she shows up and opens all the family baggage. Well, you probably know the rest of the story. Stars Jacqueline Bisset.
