The Burger City slated to open on the east side on Tuesday is now being called Monkey Burger and has a new menu.
The eatery is supposed to open Monday in the former Intermezzo space at 5350 E. Broadway.
Roy Schaefer, 27, who was the managing founder of the original Burger City at 47 N. Sixth Ave., decided to pursue a different direction.
The gourmet burger joint originally opened downtown about a year ago as an extension of the nonprofit ArtFare.
ArtFare could not be reached for comment, and Schaefer was mum about details of the split.
"We wish them the best at ArtFare," Schaefer said. "We just wanted to go a different route."
Schaefer's new restaurant has no involvement with Artfare. He said Monkey Burger would donate some of its profits to support the arts. Its current beneficiary is Art Terrain, which did the eatery's murals.

The new concept was developed by executive chef Matt Stricker, formerly of McClintock's Restaurant. He chose the name after his signature burger.
"I called it the monkey burger because it was so tall and so huge," said Stricker, 34.
A Monkey Burger will cost $9.50 and is one-third pound Angus beef topped with poblano peppers, mushrooms and onions, lettuce, tomato, bacon and a blend of cheddar and Swiss. It will come with chips. For $2.75, add fries, sweet potato fries, fried pickles, a salad or corn on the cob.
