On a street where a restaurant's history is measured in decades, Lili's Cocina is still a toddler.
Lili's celebrated its fourth anniversary in September. Its owner, Lili García, put her life savings into the business, according to a 2005 interview in the Star.
Since then, the restaurant has earned plenty of raves for its Jalisco-influenced cuisine. Items like the enchiladas in mole sauce and camarones rancheros have attracted customers ranging from Rep. Raúl Grijalva to "CHiPs" actor Erik Estrada.
The festive orange, green and purple walls in the smallish dining room boast framed images of Frida Kahlo and elaborate paintings of home life south of the border.
Lili's mom, Virginia García, is the queen of the kitchen. Her culinary expertise stems from her time as the owner of the San Enrique restaurant in Nogales, Son., in the 1960s and '70s.
