Born Kevin Moore in South Los Angeles to parents originally from the Deep South, Keb' Mo' developed a love for the blues at a young age.
His music blends soulful sounds inspired by old-school bluesmen like Robert Johnson.
The three-time Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter's debut album, "Keb' Mo'," was released in 1994 to rave reviews.
Rolling Stone gave the album four stars and said:
"Keb' switches among acoustic guitar, banjo and National steel and even lays down an electric solo with fat, round tones on the churchy 'Don't Try to Explain.' And with John Porter, whose credits include Buddy Guy's 'Damn Right, I've Got the Blues,' producing, it all sounds seamless."
Recently, Keb' Mo' left Sony Records and formed his own label and quickly released a new album, "Live and Mo'," with three new songs, a re-recording of a 15-year-old number and six live performances of older songs. The album offers little to longtime Mo' fans but is a good primer for the uninitiated.
