Smokin' Joe Kubek was singing the blues in a phone interview last week with the Star.
Hurricane Ike had just left a path of destruction along Texas' Gulf Coast.
"I've got some friends on the outskirts of Houston who I think are OK," the Dallas native explained. "But I do know people who have friends in Galveston that are now homeless."
Stormy weather won't keep Kubek and his longtime musical partner Bnois King from giving it their all Saturday at the Boondocks Lounge, 3306 N. First Ave.
The two are coming to town with their new album, "Blood Brothers," their first Alligator Records release.
"Alligator has always been a label that I've wanted to be on throughout my career," Kubek said. "They are very hard workers, very hands-on. They pay attention to what needs to be done."

Kubek said their latest release focuses more on lyrical content over blazing guitar solos.
He said he looks forward to exposing Tucsonans to some of the new tracks on Saturday.
"We've always had a lot of fun at the Boondocks," he said.
The evening begins at 8:30. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. 690-0991.
