Ballet Tucson's fairy-tale finale
Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White, Puss-in-Boots and Cinderella round out Ballet Tucson's fairy-tale season finale, "Sleeping Beauty," starting next Friday at Centennial Hall.
The classic production, set to Tchaikovsky's score with choreography from Marius Petipa, follows Princess Aurora as she slips into century-long slumber at the hands of an evil sorceress, only to be awakened by a prince.
"Sleeping Beauty" was Tchaikovsky's second ballet. It was based on Charles Perrault's "La Belle au Bois dormant," part of a series of fairy tales published by the author in 1697.
It debuted at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg in 1890.
Ballet Tucson performances are at 7:30 p.m. next Friday and 2 p.m. May 10. Tickets are $27-$30 with discounts available through the box office, 621-3341.
