What would an honest-to-goodness country record from the Reverend Horton Heat sound like?
His signature is rockabilly on steroids - driving guitar bursting with angst, with silly cowpoke lyrics that bank on every cliché possible.
There's not a lot of punk on his nearly year-old album "Laughin' & Cryin' with the Reverend Horton Heat."
But there's not a lot of reimagining either. Longtime fans of his live show have cheered when he plays one of his irreverent, often hilarious country tunes. In fact that's largely what convinced the good Reverend - born James C. Heath in Corpus Christi, Texas - to put out "Laughin' & Cryin'."
Catch Heat at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Rialto. Tickets for the show, which also features Split Lip Rayfield and Hillstomp. are $10-$15 advance, $20 day of show.
