Dragons are taking over the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey circus.
In its new show "Dragons," which comes to the Tucson Arena next week, the famed circus troupe of acrobats, high-wire and trapeze artists, and animal trainers share the spotlight with the mythical beasts.
Computer-generated dragons spew fire as eight motorcyclists simultaneously spin this way and that in a steel globe. Trapeze artists flip and twist overhead, chasing images of dragons that dart back and forth.
The show's highlight is the appearance of the dragon itself, a mammoth mechanical beast spitting flames in a cloud of smoke. It flaps its giant wings and tail in the grand finale as the circus performers led by ringmaster Johnathan Lee Iverson parade around the floor dancing, as Iverson blasts a song about the power of the dragon.
