Some of the details are a bit sketchy, but it is generally believed that the most significant Civil War battle in Arizona took place at Picacho Peak.
On April 15, 1862, an advance detachment of Union forces from California attacked a Confederate scouting party.
In 1962, for the 100th anniversary of the battle, the Ghost Patrol, 7th U.S. Cavalry, from California, came to Arizona to participate in the event. This may have been the first year the re-enactment was held.
It was produced by the Arizona Civil War Centennial Commission and included several Pima County groups.
