Writers from New Jersey, Washington and Vermont have captured top honors in the annual Literary Awards Writing Competition sponsored by the Tucson Festival of Books.
This year’s contest attracted 672 entries from 42 states and 21 other countries.
Judging took place in three categories: fiction, nonfiction and poetry. Award winners were selected by authors who will appear at the festival March 15-16 at the University of Arizona.

Taking top honors in fiction was April Darcy of Metuchen, New Jersey. Her submission was a short story entitled “Elephants on Parade.”
D.A. Navoti of Seattle won the nonfiction division with “One Pima Pilgrim,” and Kateri Kosek of North Ferrisburgh, Vermont, won with a collection of poems called “Moon Roof.”

Darcy, Navoti and Kosek will appear together at the festival on March 16.
