It's about time to start packing for that rapidly approaching summer vacation.
If you've ever arrived at a great travel spot without any of the right stuff in your suitcase, then you know that packing takes planning.
Here is a quick checklist that can make getting away to your vacation hot spot a tad easier.
● Accessories. Jewelry and accessories are a great way to expand one's limited out-of-a-suitcase wardrobe. Just like a shoe can change an outfit, a different necklace can make the same shirt or dress look brand new. We liked a shell pendant by Indeed (at Macy's), a turquoise cuff bracelet (at Old Navy) and a silver shell-like necklace (at Ann Taylor).
● Easy-to-pack dress. This season, a dress is a must. A floral print dress is easy to shove in a suitcase. It can be dressy or casual, depending on one's accessories.

● Wrap. It's always a good idea to take a wrap for your shoulders after sunset, when the ocean breeze can turn cool. Even better, splurge on a fine wool wrap, such as authentic pashmina or ultra-light cashmere.
● Lined tank top. Victorias secret.com sells summer tops featuring a comfortable, lined shelf bra.
● Metallic sandals. You can go a lot dressier with strappy metallic sandals, but we liked the comfort and versatility of spongy platform wedges in silver at Ann Taylor Loft. You can wear them on the beach and right to dinner.
● Swimsuit. Splurge on a nicely constructed swimsuit in good fabric, and you'll feel more confident strolling down the beach. Victoria's Secret sells a belted bikini ($38 for the matching halter top; $28 for the belted scoop bottom) in dozens of colors at the Web site.
● Tailored shorts. Always take a dressier pair of shorts for the scorching days.
● Tote bag. Throw a tote bag into the suitcase. It works perfectly to bring your towel, iPod, book and sunscreen to the beach, and offers an easy way to take vacation trinkets home.
● Cosmetics bag. Now that all the liquids should be in the checked luggage, a good cosmetics bag will keep them from leaking on your clothes.
● Fun stuff. Pamper yourself by packing spa essentials in fun travel sizes and don't forget to take a good UVA/UVB sunscreen.
