If you’ve ever wanted to try camping with your family, but don’t have the know-how, Arizona State Parks has just the program for you, and registration is now open.
The Arizona Family Campout Program is a one-weekend camping adventure designed for families who have little or no experience camping.
The first session takes place, this coming weekend (March 7 and 8), at Catalina State Park.Â
A camp coordinator will work with families to show them how to set up their tents, which are provided, and how to prepare meals outdoors. There will also be activities that, depending on the park, include mountain biking, hiking, fishing, archery, geocaching, animal demonstrations, campfire stories, birding and more. And families will get to work on a service project.
Families should bring food for two lunches, breakfast and dinner, sleeping bags, pillows, camping chairs, flashlights, clothing, sturdy shoes and personal items such as toothpaste, towels and soap.

The program fee is $70 for a family of four. Additional family members are $5 each. Children five years and younger and pets cannot attend.
