The home of Mr. and Mrs. Al Kivel and their daughters was photographed for the Tucson Citizen Home section in 1958. The Kivels planned the home to suit their young daughters.

Through the sliding glass doors in both the living room and dining room the patio can be seen, with El Conquistador Hotel in the distance. Oatmeal textured linen draperies cover the glass doors, allowing light to come through. The children have a playground with swings and slides to the right of the patio.

Evening lights welcome guests to Al Kivels' new home. This is the inviting doorway to Mr. and Mrs. Al Kivel's new home in El Conquistador Estates. The house, rectangular in shape, is designed with the living room in the middle, sleeping rooms to the left and dining room, kitchen and utility room to the right.

White pocket fir is used for paneling the four walls of the living room. Antique brass candlesticks and planter decorate the mantel of the used-brick corner fireplace with raised hearth. The circular sectional sofa in quilted floral fabric helps section off part of the huge room.

The oil paintings of the two girls are real eye-catchers as you enter the living room. In the dining room beyond, antique silver candlesticks, soup tureen and coffee service become interesting decorative items. The sofa curves into the room leaving a path which leads to the sliding glass doors and the patio.

Here is the kitchen decorated in turquoise and yellow to accent the natural birch cabinets. Around to the right is a dining area with white wrought iron table and chairs. The antique pitcher at right sits on the counter of the butler's pantry.
