The Copins home was photographed for the Tucson Citizen Home section in 1958. The home was designed with outdoor spaces that could be used extensively.

Green plants, bowls of roses and dried plants arrangements are placed throughout the Copins home to give the effect of bringing the out-of-doors inside. The living room colors suggest the shades of the Southwest desert - beige and white. White drapery at the windows keeps the interior of the home cool until noon when the sun has moved to the west. The raised open fireplace is of native Arizona sandstone. Beams of glazed mahogany cross the sloping ceiling which is white pebbled on the outside.

Glazed mahogany has been used effectively throughout the Hy Copins home. Bookshelves in the study and the door molding leading to the living room illustrate this. The gold leaf pattern of the white wallpaper in the study as well as the touches of wood point out the idea of bringing the out-of-doors inside. The piano acts as a counter-balance for a large open fireplace at the opposite corner of the living room.

Sliding glass doors between the patio and dining room of the Copins home create the illusion of only one room. With plants both inside and out, the dining room and patio seem interchangeable. The colors of the desert are harmoniously used in decorating to tie the two even closer together. An Italian rooster statue commands the place of honor on the fence separating the fertile patio garden from the arid surroundings.

The outdoor living room of the Copins home lends itself ideally to summer living. Easily accessible to the kitchen, the patio is used for dining in summer evenings. It also serves as a gathering spot for the crowd after a swim in the pool in the lower patio. Lush plants encompass the two patios. Ranging from flowering bushes to fruit trees, the shrubbery was chosen for year-around color. As the furniture is left outside all year, it must be adaptable to different kinds of weather. The Copins use wrought iron, glass, wicker and leather.

Rays of the Southwest's sun are picked up in the kitchen where the Copins have a collection of copperware. The toaster, pots and pans, molds and teapot all are of gleaming copper. The built-in appliances are yellow to further show off the collection. And one wall of the room is papered with a sunny yellow and white print. Located at the back of the house, the kitchen overlooks the lower patio and the swimming pool.
