Rodeo means a couple of vacation days for thousands of Tucson students each year. This year some can spend it learning water polo or singing like the cast of "Glee," thanks to several new programs.
"We have a lot of families who can't take off the time, and we wanted to offer kids something to do while they are out of school," said Catrina Sneva, who works with KU Studios, a performing arts group offering pop-culture-based options.
The UA Campus Recreation Center has introduced a day learning kayaking and a lacrosse clinic. Organizers said the center is starting to offer more summer camps and thought activities over rodeo break was a natural next step.
Steve Leininger, La Paloma Academy's principal, said a carnival over rodeo break seemed a good way to involve the community.
