MTV skateboarding star Ryan Sheckler is part of the grand opening of a skate park north of Marana Saturday.
The 18-year-old high school senior is a pro skater who stars in the MTV series "Life of Ryan," now in its second season.
The grand opening is open to the public, but Red Rock Village Skate Park will be a private venue for residents of the development, which is six miles north of the Pinal/Pima county line. The complex someday could have more than 3,900 homes and today boasts a 25-acre park with playgrounds and ball fields. Plans also call for a swim complex that includes water slides and a heated lap pool.
As part of the skate park's grand opening, non-residents also will be able to test it out from 4 to 6 p.m. on Saturday.
Sheckler will do a demonstration, and 15 kids, age 17 and under, will get to watch from inside the "bowl."
