The family of a woman whose nude body was found hanging from a tree in the San Xavier District of the Tohono O'odham Nation last week hopes that the person responsible will turn themselves in.
On Friday, the family of 32-year-old Marisol Padilla issued a statement about the woman they say should be remembered as a fun-loving mother, sister and daughter. At the same time, the FBI and tribal police are working to determine the motive for the slaying and find the killer, said Deborah McCarley, an FBI spokeswoman in Phoenix.
"(Marisol) was not a bad person and didn't deserve this horrible death," her family said in a statement released by Homicide Survivors. "Our family hopes that this horrible event will unite our family more than ever in her honor."
Padilla loved to cook, her relatives said, and was the self-proclaimed family-event organizer, getting everyone together for picnics and gatherings.

A passer-by found Padilla's body suspended in a tree with wire about noon March 31 near South Mission and San Xavier roads, said Tohono O'odham Police Chief Richard Saunders.
The cause of Padilla's death and the circumstances that led to it are still under investigation, McCarley said.
Padilla had a gunshot wound, but that doesn't appear to be what killed her, McCarley said.
