"Lefty" has arrived at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship.
Phil Mickelson, fresh off a win at the Northern Trust Open in Los Angeles, arrived at The Gallery Golf Club, South Course as today's second day of practice competition was coming to a close.
Mickelson worked on his short game in the practice bunker before heading to the driving range; while there, the former Tucson Open Champion and Arizona State University graduate drew a standing-room only crowd. He settled on the far end of the practice tees, near newcomer Brandt Snedeker and away from the compulsive Vijay Singh.
Mickelson is not expected to play a scheduled practice round, and will take the course against Pat Perez on Wednesday morning having not played The Gallery in a year.
That might not matter. Mickelson, the world's No. 2 player, is playing some of his best golf. He lost the FBR Open in Scottsdale earlier this month on a playoff hole, then rebounded to take last week's Northern Trust event. Mickelson is first in FedEx Cup points in 2008 with 8,069. He has made $1.98 million in the young season.
