JAMAICA
Postponed elections to be held Sept. 3
KINGSTON — Elections that were postponed when Hurricane Dean barreled over Jamaica will take place Sept. 3, a week later than originally planned.
Governor General Kenneth Hall, Jamaica's official head of state, announced the date.
Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller is seeking to lead her People's National Party to a historic fifth straight term in power.
Simpson Miller, Jamaica's first female prime minister, is facing her first test for leadership at the polls.
She became prime minister by winning a leadership vote within her party last year, beating three opponents to take over from then Prime Minister P.J. Patterson, who had led Jamaica for the previous 14 years.

WEST BANK
'Lion King' character used on Hamas TV
JERUSALEM — After killing off its Mickey Mouse look-alike, Hamas TV has turned to another Disneyesque character — a five-minute cartoon with a "Lion King" wannabe to portray the Islamic group's victory in the Gaza Strip over the Fatah movement.
The cartoon, "A message to the criminal gangs in the occupied West Bank," depicts Fatah members as sneaky rats, brandishing guns and being showered with U.S. dollars, while Hamas is portrayed as a confident, calm lion that resembles Simba in the 1994 Walt Disney Co. movie "The Lion King."
In May, Hamas TV used a Mickey Mouse knockoff to preach Islamic domination to children. After an uproar among Israelis and Palestinians, that character was killed off and his weekly show replaced.
