Gabby Giffords has returned to local politics, taking out two 30-second television ads today, benefitting her former district director Ron Barber by attacking his Republican rival, Martha McSally.
The former Congresswoman's Super PAC - Americans for Responsible Solutions - will air two ads locally, titled "Personal" and "Nearly Everyone."
The group is expected to spend six-figures on the ads in Gifford's former congressional district, which will be broadcasted on both cable and network television stations.
Both ads states Barber's Congressional District 2 rival, McSally, is opposed to closing the "gun show" loophole that allow individuals to buy guns without a background check a as well as online transactions. The groups cites statements made to ABC in a April 2014 interview.

The ads draw on new research showing that 86 percent of southern Arizonans support expanding background checks to close the loophole and 82 percent of voters have stated a candidate’s views on gun violence prevention play a role in their decision-making at the polls.
The same research by the Global Strategy Groups for ARS state Ron Barber has a six-point lead over McSally among likely voters.
The poll surveyed 400 voters roughly two weeks ago and has a margin of error of nearly 5 percent.
“Like nearly everyone in Southern Arizona, Ron Barber supports commonsense laws that will help reduce gun violence in our communities without interfering with the rights of responsible gun owners. But Martha McSally wants to protect the loopholes that allow domestic abusers, convicted felons, and the dangerously mentally ill to buy guns without a background check,” said Hayley Zachary, Executive Director of Americans for Responsible Solutions.
Patrick Ptak, a spokesperson for the McSally campaign, said the retired Air Force colonel believes the national focus should be on the underlying causes of gun violence.
“While we may have legitimate differences of opinion about how to best reduce violence and keep Arizonans safe, we all can agree that we need to do more to prevent tragedies in our communities. Martha believes we need to enforce those laws already on the books and place a greater emphasis on the cause of gun violence by addressing our broken mental health care system and enhancing our ability to recognize and treat signs of mental illness," Ptak said.
