Paul Eckerstrom has officially taken over the Pamela Phillips homicide case from Peter Herberg.
Eckerstrom filed his "notice of appearance" in the case late Tuesday.
For those of you not in the know, Eckerstrom is a former assistant Arizona Attorney General who considered running against Pima County Attorney Barbara LaWall in 2008, but backed out, citing his family obligations.
He now works as an assistant Pima County legal defender under Isabel Garcia.
Eckerstrom also held the position of chairman of the Arizona Democratic Party for two weeks in 2009.
According to a Star article written at the time, Eckerstrom was elected by party members in a 324-255 vote, but then told state committee members in a letter just days later that "the logistical demands of the chairmanship were insurmountable given his family and work obligations."
