We do not yet know if 2015-16 will experience the most severe El Niño, but history tells us that El Niños have been strengthening since they were first recorded in 1950. The National Weather Service reported that the 2015 El Niño is already closely tracking weather patterns of the 1997-98 El Niño.
California has experienced a wetter than usual fall, but we will not definitively know what this El Niño has in store until winter is in full force.
