Dope smuggler's pickup gets stuck on homemade ramp over border fence

An old pickup truck carrying 314 pounds of marijuana on Monday got stuck on a homemade bridge placed over a vehicle barrier made of criss-crossed railroad ties, according to a news release from the U.S. Border Patrol. The front wheels became wedged between the rails of the metal ramp.

Agents found 22 bundles of marijuana in a concealed compartment underneath the bed of the truck.

Border Patrol agents have discovered similar ramps that were used by smugglers to drive over border vehicle barriers in the past. The government’s recent buildup of border barriers included hundreds of miles of those designed to stop vehicles. The barrier designs vary depending on the location.

Vehicle barriers line nearly all of the 75 miles of international border on the Tohono O’odham Reservation, located west of Tucson.
