For infants, the world is new and filled with splendor as it reveals its wonder with each passing moment.
Music and dance are ways to help young children develop their brains, bodies and language, says Mary Rudy, director of Kindermusik at Musical Steps Academy.
Located on the grounds of Tanque Verde Lutheran Church at 8625 E. Tanque Verde Road, Kindermusik introduces children to music, dance and other stimuli to enhance childhood growth.
The five-week sessions also give parents a chanceto bond with their children as they practice social and emotional skills that include interacting with children their own age.
There is a critical window for learning music, and that is birth to 6 years old, Rudy said.
"Music is important because research shows that music enhances the total development of the brain, body, language and character of the child," Rudy said, adding, "it builds the child's self-esteem, self-expression and creativity."

Dancing also aids in brain development as children feel the connection between their body and the music.
At Kindermusik, children use scarves and other props to stimulate imagination that can help develop expression and hand-eye coordination, Rudy said.
Elizabeth Mosley took her 18-month-old daughter, Adele, to Kindermusik for the first time last week.
She tried going to music classes elsewhere with her daughter but came away disappointed.
"This one (Kindermusik) I like because of all the different elements. Besides just songs, there are instruments, dance, scarves, and it really teaches them a good sense of rhythm," Mosley said.
Kindermusik's classes are divided by age into four categories for children from birth up to 6 to 7 years, Rudy said.
The fall session is to begin Sept. 8. Classes for babies are eight weeks, and classes for toddlers on up are 15 weeks.
"Kindermusik has benefits that can last a lifetime," Rudy said. "It enhances a child's total learning and can foster a love of music."
