Members of the Arizona Senior Academy and their guests from the greater Tucson area enjoy all types of music, including classical, instrumental, vocal, ensemble and choral. At 11:30 a.m. Tuesday the Academy's weekly concert will feature Kort McCumber, an Americana/folk singer from Colorado.
The free concerts are held in the Great Room of the Senior Academy at Academy Village, an active-adult community off Old Spanish Trail six miles southeast of Saguaro National Park East.
McCumber writes, plays and sings songs steeped in tradition, honed over a musical lifetime and brought to life in the present. He describes his work as "equal parts folk, blues, rock, country and bluegrass, with a healthy dose of something fresh."
In 2007, McCumber released his sixth CD, "Lickskillet Road," featuring appearances from Vince Gill, Sally Van Meter, Don Conoscenti and others. In 2008 he was back in the mixing booth putting the finishing touches on a live DVD, captured at the famed Boulder Theater.

Last year he released two equally defining CDs - "Moors & McCumber," a collaborative effort with Wisconsin songwriter James Moors, and the critically acclaimed "Ain't the Same as Before." As the title suggests, the latest effort features the artist in a new light: less country, more gritty; less acoustic, more electric; less tentative and more confident.
A soup, salad and sandwich bar is available to concertgoers in the Academy Café, across the courtyard from the Arizona Senior Academy Building. Cost ranges from $4 to $9.25.
