For almost 20 years, the Good Earth Restaurant, in El Mercado shopping center at East Broadway and Wilmot Road, was a local favorite. On March 14, 1979, the newly opened California-style restaurant was already popular with diners seeking the "healthy foods" on the menu. Servers carried a then-unusual new device in their aprons. Each had a pager that went off when an order was ready. In 1997, the restaurant closed after a trademark and franchise dispute with the Good Earth Corp. in California.
