A Tucson tax preparer who failed to report income on his tax returns was sentenced to ten months home confinement with electronic monitoring.
Ernest Barreda pleaded guilty in federal court in 2011 to four counts of filing false tax returns, according to Arizona Daily Star archives.
Barreda was also sentenced to three years probation by U.S. District Judge David Bury, said a news release from Internal Revenue Service.
Barreda failed to report more than $53,000 on his federal income tax returns for three years.
He is also barred from preparing or helping prepare income tax returns for anyone but himself, said Brian Watson a spokesman for the IRS.
Barreda faced between 10 to 16 months in prison, however probation reccommended the home confinement sentence because of his health, Watson said.
