Gov. Doug Ducey appointed Tucson businessman Edmund Marquez to the Rio Nuevo board of directors.
He replaces Alberto Moore, who resigned in November.
Marquez owns three Allstate insurance agencies in Tucson and previously owned an auto dealership. He is a former chairman of the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
Marquez is upbeat about Rio Nuevo’s recent successes and said he is excited to be involved.
“I just want to see positive progress,” he said. “I want to see the city and downtown be everything it can be.”
The board has done a good job repairing its relationship with the city and advancing projects such as the Tucson Convention Center renovations and new downtown hotel developments, Marquez said.

“We are thrilled to have Edmund join us,” Rio Nuevo chairman Fletcher McCusker said in a statement. “He has long demonstrated his commitment to our community and is passionate about making Tucson a better place to live and work.”
The Rio Nuevo governing body is a nine member board. With Marquez’s appointment, two more governor-appointed seats are open. The state Senate president and state House speaker each get two appointees and the governor gets five.
