Tucson’s high Monday broke a record, the third straight day of record-tying or record-breaking heat. Another record may fall today.
So for those spending hours outdoors, don’t forget to drink plenty of water and lather up in sunscreen, advised John Glueck, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Tucson.
“A high-pressure system from the Eastern Pacific has parked above the Tucson valley and is dominating our weather and bringing unusual warm temperatures for February,” Glueck said.
The warm weather is nearly 15 to 18 degrees above normal high temperatures for this time of year, according to weather service data. In fact, these highs are more like daytime temperatures seen in mid- to late April.
Case in point:
Saturday — The high was 88 degrees, beating the previous record set on that date in 1957 by 3 degrees.

Sunday — The high was 85 degrees, tying the record set in 1994.
Monday — The high was 86 degrees, breaking the high of 83 set in 2004.
The forecast today is for a high of 84. The record for today’s date is 85, set in 2004, Glueck said.
A slight cooling trend is set to hit the valley later this week into Friday, bringing the highs in Tucson down into the 70s.
This is expected because of weather systems in the north that will be pushing high pressures south, Glueck explained.
The weather is expected to climb back up to near 80 degrees by the weekend.
