Tucson's Toys for Tots is far short of its goal, with only a week and a half left to collect donations.
The drive, led by the Marines, has collected about 10,000 toys - about 50,000 toys short of its goal.
"We are well below our goal and are hoping the community can donate new, unwrapped toys," spokeswoman Odette Felix said in a recent news release.
Meanwhile, the drive got a helping hand from local businessman Jim Click. Master Gunnery Sgt. Scott Gibson, Toys for Tots coordinator, contacted Click to borrow a truck to pick up toys. Click responded by lending the organization two trucks. Click also has offered to place boxes in all of his dealerships, including the one in Green Valley, to help in the collection of toys.
Toy donations will be accepted through Dec. 20.
