Visitors to Sabino Canyon can expect construction and truncated service to shuttle stops this month.
The road into Upper Sabino Canyon is under construction at shuttle stop No. 9. The road will be closed to all traffic (including cyclists and pedestrians) above shuttle stop No. 8 and shuttle service will only go to stop No. 7.
The remodeling of stop No. 9, which includes new sidewalks, benches and masonry walls, is being financed through funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Young mesquite trees will also be planted in the area.
The upper parts of the canyon beyond stop No. 9 will still be accessible by foot, but hikers will be required to use the trail running along the banks of Sabino Creek. A connecting trail between stop No. 9 and the Phoneline Trail will also be closed.
The closure is expected to last through the end of the month.
