A Tucson 10-year-old is the youngest Arizona hunter in recent history to harvest a desert bighorn sheep, the state Game and Fish Department says.
Quinn Rusing took the desert bighorn sheep in Unit 43B near the Red Cloud Mine, north of Yuma, on his 10th birthday, Dec. 17.
Quinn has hunted smaller game like turkeys previously, but this was his first big game.
In Arizona, hunters have to be at least age 10 and have to complete a hunter’s safety course through Game and Fish in order to hunt big game.
The names of only a certain number of people are drawn by Game and Fish every year to hunt the bighorn sheep.
Quinn’s mother’s name was drawn, and she gave the tag to her son for his birthday.
The ram scored out at 161.5 points by Arizona Game and Fish.

“He was very excited,” said Quinn’s father, Mick Rusing. “It’s cool ... he was diagnosed as a Type 1 diabetic at age 3, so it’s cool he’s able to do stuff like that.”
