As people across Tucson rang in the new year with parties, fireworks and resolutions, Samantha Polston had one goal on her mind.
Polston wanted her newborn son, Aurelio Polston, to be the first Tucson baby born in 2011.
At 12:01 a.m., she got her wish.
Polston, 18, delivered her 6-pound, 15-ounce boy more than 12 hours after she checked into St. Joseph's Hospital.
He was originally due on New Year's Day, but Samantha went into labor a day early.
Aurelio measured 19 inches long.
Polston talked with the Star about her reaction to finding out Aurelio could be the first baby born in Tucson this year and her excitement after it actually happened.
On when she found out her baby could be the first of 2011:

"About 30 minutes before New Year's. I was excited because I wanted to have him on New Year's Day. I wanted him to be the first baby."
On what she did to ensure Aurelio would be the first baby of the year:
"He was coming but, after midnight, I started pushing. I'm so happy now. I'm just happy and excited that it happened and it's New Year's Day."
On how she'll commemorate the occasion:
"He'll have a scrapbook. We're going to get DVDs from the news stations of the interviews."
